Tarneybackle is one of Scotland's popular folk groups, performing a wide range of traditional and contemporary folk music. The band sing mainly Scottish folk songs, adding in some tunes and material from North America and Ireland. Close harmony singing is Tarneybackle's hallmark. Songs are accompanied by a sensitive blend of guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, octave mandola, flute, whistles and percussion .

Many thanks to Erik Margraf of "Folkworld" for the following review of "The Diamond":-

Ladies and gentlemen, this is pure! Tarneybackle blend strong vocal harmonies with a wide range of string, wind and percussion instruments....... Tarneybackle come across as both proficient and 100% authentic -- and for good reasons at that............. So, drawing on a classic Dire Strait song, I reverently suggest they be shortlisted for a possible future "Sultans of Trad" award.

.

Orkney Reviews - "Tarneybackle gave a full-sounding and genuine performance.......kept the audience entertained between songs with humorous banter for good measure."

"fusion of traditional and contemporary folk, with strong vocals from John Davidson intensifying the performance.

""........credible mix of folk"
